BREAKING DANCE STYLE
Originating in the Bronx, breaking is both a sport and a form of artistic, improvisational dance that emerged among African American and Latino communities in the ghettos, as a more positive alternative to their lives at the time. The style is related to Funk and Breaks music. Considered one of the most famous artists in the Funk and Breaks genres is James Brown.
Breakdancing is performed in circles where dancers gather in a ring, and each one takes a turn performing their own short, yet intense performance. This is also known in break culture as “Cypher/Cyphering”. Also, it is danced based on the principle of head-to-head duels, also known as Battles.
This dance is intense, focused on strong body conditioning and fast acrobatic movement, but also strongly touches upon aspects such as improvisation, creativity, musicality, or even acting.
